Why does Tumblr get mad at girls for liking “ugly boys”? Are they hurting anyone? Why does it fucking matter? What would y’all do if people started getting mad at boys being attracted to “ugly girls?” What then?

This site is “all women are pretty but a lot of men are ugly so date me instead” and it’s creepy as hell. Let girls think any guy is attractive for any fuckin reason and leave them alone

I also find it disturbing *who* gets called ugly. It started with Benedict Cumberbatch and Adam Driver, but nowaday main subjects of mockery are Asian celebrities (kpop, jpop, jrock singers, bollywood actors) and Ezra Miller – that is, men of colour and a nonbinary, gender noncomforming person. Intersectionality whom, never heard of her.

Pretty much. 

To be honest, this whole thing made my blood boil even when it was directed at white, Western men like Cumberbatch and Adam Driver? Why? Several reasons: 

• as a woman whose lack of conventional attractiveness has been used to dehumanize me and treat me like absolute garbage, seeing the same rancid shit turned on anyone else, no matter how privileged in this and that way, sends me into an absolute rage. Does ‘fucking stop going after people’s appearance!’ have to be pummeled into human society, before it finally sinks in? 
• the screeds against 

  Cumberbatch‘s appearance were more often than not connected to completely tone-deaf actions and remarks on his part. If you want to criticize someone’s actions and attitudes, do so – but lay off the appearance-related insults. And yes, the very same principle applies to no. 45 as well. 

• Adam Driver’s case was an absolute clusterfuck of brain-fried wankers utterly incapable of telling the difference between between an actor and the character they play + other wankers jumping on his publicly-stated abivalence toward his own physical appearance. Reprehensible behavior all around. 

Add in the above-mentioned targeting of MoC and nonbinary people and, yet again, we’ve got proof that for far too many people, ‘progressivism’ is a thin, do-it-to-look-good coating that can get peeled off with minimal effort. 

the fact that this practice of mocking mens appearances (on this website, at least) has some roots in ‘getting them back’ for having the privilege of lower beauty standards is just further proof that any and all revenge-based exclusionary ‘justicisms’ WILL be appropriated for use against vulnerable minorities, no matter how hard the people behind them insist that they only mean ‘the bad, privileged ones.’
