Finished the Ajin anime today and wow it was such a great anime! The changes from the manga were a pleasant reimagining of the story and the end battle was awesome! I really enjoyed Tanaka’s continued loyalty to Satou in the anime as that’s my only complaint in the manga so far. I don’t really care for bad guys turning good, however I loved that Okuyama, Gen, and Takahashi joined Nagai and company. I honestly thought Tanaka was turning on Satou in the anime and was gearing up for Satou to blast him in the face but that didn’t happen. They just played video games ❤ Their “escape” was pretty cool (God Satou is so badass!!) and it means they can both keep on doing things, together 😉
Can’t wait for Volume 12 of Ajin! Been reading the manga since it first came out. I’m currently watching the anime and the cell shading animation mix is actually really good. I thought it would bother me because cell shading is often terrible, however Ajin is done really well. Fight scenes are great and the facial expressions are awesome because they speak louder and with more emotion than most 2D anime can express. The only issue I can see (which doesn’t bother me) is the frame rate or jumpiness of the animation. Which I think is because of budget issues as this series doesn’t seem popular (WHY? its amazing). Because of this animation style, all the characters appear consistently drawn in every shot and I love that.
I love Sakurai’s art style. It was a breath of fresh air when I picked up the first volume. I was so bored of all the generic anime styles (and stories) and his art has grown exponentially since then. Great story and characters. Wish the anime and manga were both longer because there is so much potential with this series.
Satou and Tanaka are my favourite characters. Satou is #1 and he is such a uniquely badass villian with adorable suspenders and that fucking hat. Also I love that he always has his eyes closed and when he opens them I get chills. And I love right hand men type characters, like Tanaka with his awesome jacket, terrible aim, loyalty (cough), and his awkwardness/or whatever you’d call it.
